“Behind every successful woman is a tribe of other successful women who have her back.” This is something The United Women in Business Foundation believes to our core! On Wednesday, 2/8, UWIB NYC and Hired partnered up for a Girl Boss Speed Networking event.
This event wasn’t a typical networking event – Upon arrival, members were assigned to either the red or the blue group, which dictated their placement during the speed networking portion. During the first 30 minutes of the event, members were coached on how to craft a 30-second “elevator pitch” customized to the event using a worksheet provided by UWIB NYC. Whether members were on the search for a new job or simply looking to connect with other young professionals in the New York / Tri-State area, this was a great opportunity for everyone to learn something new!
After nailing down their elevator pitches, members put their new skills to the test with round robin style speed networking. Our partners at Hired did a wonderful job setting up “networking stations” in numerical order across their entire office space. Anyone assigned to the blue group stayed in the same spot throughout the speed networking portion, while those in the red group rotated after the sound of the gong! Each pair had 5 minutes to connect and were directed to use the first 2 minutes for their elevator pitches, then the last 3 minutes to talk about points of common interest. In an effort to allow members of the same color group to connect, we ended the event with a 30-minute open networking portion.
Aside from the networking itself, members were also treated to light refreshments and stay hydrated thanks to our water sponsor, Agua. Their brand mission is to create beverages that help everyday individuals maintain a healthy lifestyle through hydration, good-for-you electrolytes and ingredients that are functional for the everyday motions of life. Members loved the variety of flavors, especially the Lemon-Cucumber water!
Additionally, members were treated to all sorts of cool swag from our partners at Hired! They had cotton t-shirts, stickers, and winter hats to go around! We are so thankful for their partnership and help pulling off one of our favorite events to date!
