UWIB is excited to partner with Kibonen Nfi, an award-winning Cameroonian fashion designer and COVID-19 survivor, who will be sharing how to overcome challenges and find courage in the face of adversity. Attendees will be able to openly ask Kibonen questions regarding entreprenuership and resilience.

Partner Spotlight:

Kibonen Nfi is the founder and creative director of Kibonen NY as well as a philanthropist. Her clothing, which infuses Cameroonian culture and contemporary designs, has been worn by famous celebrities such as Gayle King, Lupita Nyong'o, and Justine Skye. She also launched Made in Camer, a fair-trade textile manufacturing plant, that strives to build employment rates in her hometown of Bamenda, Cameroon. She recently donated the factory to the local Cameroonian community and raised money to help with pandemic efforts, which has led to an estimated 6,000 face masks made thus far. During her free time, Kibonen enjoys showing off her DJ skills on Instagram live. She lived in New York City for ten years and recently relocated to Bowie, MD. We are happy to welcome her to the greater Washington, D.C. community!

Kibonen's past accomplishments include:

  • Presented with the "Best Cameroonian Designer in the USA Award" by the current Ambassador of Cameroon to the U.S.

  • Featured in Vogue Italia

  • Presented a collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York

  • Celebrity dress design intern at DKNY

  • Showcased pieces in the Smithsonian Museum of African Art in D.C. and in Buckingham Palace

  • Judge for Miss Africa USA
