As National President, Shayla leads the organization’s long term development and goals, providing oversight and guidance to the boards.  Currently she is the acting DC chapter President and serves as an advisor to fellow chapter presidents.

Shayla currently works at PricewaterhouseCoppers'(PwC) in the public sector specializing in Financial Management and currently serves a government client in the DC area.  She has previously worked in finance and strategy at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and the Advisory Board Company, respectively. She graduated from The George Washington University (GW) School of Business with a Bachelor of Business Administration with concentrations in finance and business economics and public policy. As one of the founding members of UWIB, she has been a board member for 5 years and previously served as the Vice President of Membership.

Shayla is passionate about supporting her fellow women as they pursue their goals and, as someone constantly inspired by those women around her, she is excited to work with an organization dedicated to empowering women while building a strong network of peers.

As National President, Christine leads the organization’s long term development and goals, providing oversight and guidance to the boards.  Currently she is the DC chapter President and serves as an advisor to fellow chapter presidents. As DC President, Christine provides guidance to the board and focuses on long-term organizational development.

Christine has been involved with UWIB since 2013 and was the 2016 DC President and 2015 DC Vice President. She believes strongly in UWIB’s mission and is passionate about advancing opportunities for women in business.

Christine currently works as a Human Capital Consultant at Deloitte. She was previously a Strategy Consultant within IBM’s public sector. Christine graduated from The George Washington University School Of Business with a BBA in Finance and minor in Economics.

Outside of work she enjoys instagramming food and visiting markets. She can be found in DC exploring the city’s restaurant scene or at the Dupont Circle farmers market most Sundays!

Caitlyn McEvilly, Executive Vice President

As Executive Vice President, Caitlyn works on strategic initiatives and special projects across the UWIB chapters. Caitlyn joined UWIB in 2013 and helped launch the Chicago chapter. She served as the President of Chicago for two years prior to serving as the Executive Vice President.

Caitlyn is a management consultant and has worked at Accenture and PwC in the banking and capital markets practice. She primarily focuses on firm-wide technology implementations for financial institutions across the country. Caitlyn graduated in 2007 from the University of Iowa with a degree in Finance.

In her free time, Caitlyn enjoys tennis, home brewing beer and wine, and traveling to her favorite European countries.

Caitlyn has enjoyed watching the UWIB Chicago chapter grow, and she is excited to continue networking with young professionals and helping them continue to grow personally and professionally.

As National Vice President of Operations, Winnie creates, implements, and manages the organizational systems and processes of the organization.

Her previous UWIB roles were VP of Membership – NYC (2015) and VP of Digital Media – NYC (2014).

Winnie is currently a Media Planner at XenoPsi. Prior to that, she was at MEC and at JPMorgan Chase & Co as an Internal Auditor while serving on the board for the employee resource group AsPIRE Tri-State as the Networking Co-Chair. She graduated from Baruch College (NY) with BBA cum laude degree in accounting, where she was actively involved with organizations, revitalizing Ascend (Business Leaders) in her two years through marketing and events, and serving multiple roles for Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority revamping the new member process and more.

Winnie is passionate about health and wellness and being active in the community! She was an AFAA Certified Group Fitness Instructor and was part of the NYC Parks Shape Up NYC family as a dance fitness instructor. She launched her AWDoodles Etsy Shop and is motivated to grow the cute & punny art business.

As National VP of Marketing and Communications, Amy is responsible for creating and maintaining a consistent voice in UWIB communications across all chapters.

Amy is currently a Social Media Manager at MEC Global, focused on developing strategic, integrated social media strategy and planning. She has a variety of experience across a variety of clients including Campbell’s, Chevron and United. She brings her passion and curiosity to actively pursue innovative opportunities across emerging social media platforms and unique content solutions to drive brand engagement for her clients.

Amy is a graduate of the George Washington University and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, with a minor in Japanese.

 Alyssa Shadinger Head Shot 2Alyssa Shadinger, Vice President of Finance

As National VP of Finance, Alyssa oversees UWIB’s annual finances and assists in the budgeting of the organization.

Alyssa is a CPA and Manager in the IPO Readiness and SEC Compliance practice at The Pine Hill Group where she helps clients tackle financial reporting and regulatory compliance issues. Previously, Alyssa worked in internal audit at Protiviti and Sealed Air Corporation, and started her career in public accounting at Mazars USA. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Accounting from Stockton University in 2011.

Alyssa is passionate about giving back to her profession and community. She currently serves as a mentor to NJCPA Scholarship recipients and volunteers with Philadelphia Futures, Junior League, and the AICPA. Alyssa loves to read and travel in her spare time. (Iceland and Italy are on the calendar for 2017!)

Karina Fochtman, President, Chicago

Karina is currently a Relationship Manager for Institutional Investors at Backstop Solutions Group (BSG), a company that provides CRM, investor relations, and portfolio management cloud based software for the alternative investment community. Her role taps into her energetic, client focused, and results oriented skills to build key client relationships. She works drive adoption, expand our footprint, and increase referenceability while working hand-in-hand with C-Level executives.

Prior to this role Karina developed and ran the Sales Operations and Solutions Consulting Department at BSG for 5 years. Her role involved developing scalable processes, data analysis and product expertise.

Karina graduated from The University of Michigan with a B.S in Biology where she was involved in the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program and a founding member of Students Fighting Cystic Fibrosis (SFCF).

Karina has been involved with UWIB since 2014 and is excited to take on her new role as President of the Chicago UWIB Chapter to continue supporting the professional development of women in Chicago.

Corey Nianick, Vice President, Chicago

Corey Nianick works as an Implementation Manager at bswift, a technology platform that offers a retail shopping experience for health insurance exchanges and employers. In her role, she is responsible for coordinating large-scope project plans and managing the system configuration for national exchange clients.

Prior to her role at bswift, Corey helped launch Chicago Ideas Week (CIW), a non-profit that brings together global thought leaders to share ideas, inspire action and ignite change. Surrounded by entrepreneurial energy and some of the world’s most creative minds, Corey’s intellectual curiosity was sparked, leaving her passionate about community engagement and networking.

Corey graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Business. There she was a Teaching Assistant for a Leadership Studies course, gaining valuable experience putting leadership theory into practice.

As the Vice President, Corey is excited to diversify the Chicago chapter’s network and to engage, collaborate and share ideas with a growing community of professional women.

Diana Gore works as a Project Manager at Backstop Solutions Group, a company that provides CRM, investor relations, and portfolio management cloud based software for the alternative investment industry.

Previously, she worked on the Enterprise and Operational Risk team of GE Capital, Americas (GECA) in Chicago where she managed the electronic information management processes for GECA businesses and acted as a liaison between the businesses and third party vendors.

Diana graduated cum laude from The George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs with a B.A. in Political Communication. She also minored in Spanish Language and Literature and had the opportunity to spend a semester studying in Madrid. During college, Diana held a variety of research and public relations internships in the non-profit sector. She also interned with the public affairs office of the U.S. Department of the Treasury and with NBC News during her last year at GW.

Diana is passionate about helping other women succeed in their careers and is excited about UWIB’s expanding presence in Chicago!

Marissa EllenbyMarissa Ellenby, Vice President of Community Relations, Chicago

Marissa is the 2016 VP of Community Relations for the UWIB Chicago Chapter. In this role she’ll continue to help develop dynamic programming and secure sponsorships and donations for events. Marissa will also serve as the university relations liaison for the Chicagoland region.

Marissa is an account supervisor at a Public Communications, Inc., a full service marketing and public relations firm. Working with a diverse group of clients, Marissa plans and coordinates events and openings for museums, manages annual meeting newsrooms and provides ongoing communications services for a variety of corporate and nonprofit clients.

As her third year on the UWIB Board, Marissa is thrilled to help expand UWIB’s presence in Chicago for like minded young professionals.

Lauren MandelLauren Mandel, Vice President of Membership, Chicago

Lauren Mandel currently works at GoHealth, a health insurance technology company, as the Marketing Manager. She is responsible for creating all original content for all business-to-business and business-to-consumer materials, including website redesigns, emails, social media content, white papers, case studies, and advertising materials.

Prior to working at GoHealth, Lauren worked as a senior copywriter at Rewards Network, a restaurant marketing company, and in advertising sales at People Magazine and People.com, working with national brands such as General Mills, NBC, and Aveda. Her writing has also been featured in various publications, including Cheeky Chicago, Refinery 29, and The Huffington Post.

Lauren graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in News-Editorial Journalism and a concentration in Creative Writing.

In her third year as VP of Membership for UWIB Chicago, Lauren looks forward to continuing on with the success of the chapter’s membership events, including recruiting female leaders for speaking opportunities, planning creative and fun networking events, and meeting more impressive and unique women.

Cory Warner, Vice President of Philanthropy, Chicago

As the VP of Philanthropy, Cory is responsible for developing and maintaining charitable partners.

Cory Warner has over 7 years of experience as a healthcare consultant and sales professional. She currently serves as an Associate Director for Crimson, a division of The Advisory Board Company. In this role, she helps her clients identify clinical performance improvement goals and then guides them on how to best leverage analytics to achieve these goals. Cory’s work focuses on building capacity in member organizations to sustain improvement initiatives in utilization and quality metrics through physician engagement.

Prior to her role at The Advisory Board Company, Cory worked for Emmi Solutions as a Senior Client Services Specialist and for Abbott Laboratories as a Territory Manager. Cory is a graduate of Hope College in Holland, Michigan where she obtained a B.A. in Business Management and Spanish. During college, Cory studied abroad in Mexico and Chile.

Cory is passionate about mentoring and coaching women on career development. As the VP of Philanthropy, she is excited to help women of all demographics develop professional success.

Sara Cohen, Co-Vice President of Digital Media, Chicago
Sara Cohen currently works at LinkedIn as a Customer Success Manager. Sara partners with enterprise customers, helping them drive revenue and grow their business through adoption of the LinkedIn Sales Navigator platform. She focuses on enabling customers through consulting services, training, and adoption reinforcement techniques.

Prior to working at LinkedIn, Sara worked as a Project Manager at Hitachi Consulting. As a Manager within the Oracle CX practice, she led customer experience transformation for global clients by advising on and implementing cross-channel CRM solutions. She acted as a trusted adviser to strategic accounts looking to standardize sales processes, simplify operations for their user community, and realize long term ROI on their sales investments.
Sara graduated summa cum laude from the College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in Supply Chain Management and Marketing. During college, Sara held two internships with Procter & Gamble.

Sara has been an active member of UWIB since 2014 and is excited for her first year on the board. Sara is passionate about leveraging social media to expand UWIB’s presence in Chicago!

Susan Vanderporten, Co-Vice President of Digital Media, Chicago
As Co-Vice President of Digital Media, Susan works to expand UWIB’s online presence for the Chicago Chapter and continue to help grown the UWIB brand in the Chicago area.

Susan Vanderporten has over 10 years of experience in marketing and design and is driven by a passion for corporate visual brand standards. Her experience includes working at Backstop Solutions Group, a cloud based software company for the alternative investment community where she lead the visual brand identity for the organization. Prior to Backstop Susan worked at @properties, a leading real estate company in the Chicagoland area where she worked to drive the corporate brand standards for the organization and helped top producing real estate brokers expand their marketing presence. She continues to work with organizations to help build their brand and design standards and is on the pursuit to expand her career in UI/UX design.

Susan is a graduate from Bradley University where she obtained a B.S. in Graphic Design. In her free time, she loves exploring all that Chicago has to offer and spending time with her husband and one year old son. Susan is excited to be part of the UWIB board and looks forward to being inspired by women as we work to encourage and empower each other to achieve our life and career goals.

Kathleen Ott, Vice President,  D.C.

Kathleen is currently the Annual Giving & Events Associate for the Foundation for Physical Therapy, charitable arm of the American Physical Therapy Association. In her role, Kathleen manages all annual fundraising programs, as well as plans and coordinates 15-400 attendee events including meetings, receptions, luncheons, and galas.

Originally from Cincinnati, Kathleen graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications Analysis & Practice. During her time at OSU, she received the President’s Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service.

As Vice President, Kathleen is passionate about gender equality and excited to help the UWIB DC chapter grow, meet new people, and ultimately help foster the professional success of women. In her free time, Kathleen likes to explore DC and drink champagne.

Elizabeth MacLaughlin, Co-Vice President of Programming,  D.C.

Elizabeth graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Affairs and a minor in Spanish. At UVA, she volunteered at a Crisis Helpline, tutored at an elementary school, and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She also got the opportunity to study abroad in Lima, Peru. Other than those years in Charlottesville, Elizabeth has lived in the DC Metro area for her whole life.
Elizabeth works as an HR Manager, mitigating organizational risk and managing compensation programs at a non-profit clinical network in DC. Prior to that, she worked in a number of roles at a government contractor, from University Relations to on-boarding, and served on the company’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Elizabeth volunteers for Upwardly Global, a nonprofit that helps recent immigrant, refugee, and asylee professionals rebuild their careers.
In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys running on the DC trails, crocheting unappreciated hats and mittens for her cats, and traveling as often as she can. She is passionate about the professional advancement of women and looks forward to serving the UWIB community as the Co-VP of Programming.

Jessica Everhart

Jessica Everhart, Co-Vice President of Programing, DC 

As Co-Vice President of Programming, Jessica supports the development and execution of professional development initiatives for the UWIB D.C. Chapter. She has the unique opportunity to share this role with Elizabeth Maclaughlin, who will help her to execute and create new event concepts for the year to follow. Through this partnership, Jessica and Elizabeth will develop relationships with venues, manage program event logistics, and work closely with the VP of Community Relations to secure event donations and sponsorship for professional development events.

Jessica currently works at TMP Government as a Sales Assistant, supporting the Sales and Business Development team. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in December 2013 with a Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies, Media Studies and Business.

In her free time, she enjoys planning trips and function for herself and all of her friends. Her goal is to fill her time with well thought out memories. She is dedicated to the foundation’s mission to support women empowerment across all industries and pave the way for inspired women around her.

Katie Proch, Vice President of Community Relations, D.C.

Both in and out of the office, Katie works to provide young professionals with the resources that they need to be successful. She currently works as Assistant Director of Thompson Markward Hall, a residence for young women just coming to DC and launching their careers. She enjoys hosting enrichment programs relevant to the young women who reside at the hall. Such programs have included financial literacy seminars, wellness programs and service projects through a variety of community partners.

This is Katie’s first year as a member of UWIB DC’s Board of Directors and is excited to help lead such a dynamic organization! Outside of work and UWIB Katie enjoys volunteering with a local dog rescue and biking to Georgetown to kayak on the Potomac river.

Leah Virbitsky, Vice President of Membership, D.C.

Leah currently works as a full-time Events & Communications Specialist for the Center for the Study of the Administrative State at George Mason University while working weekends as a Wedding Planner Assistant for Bella Notte Events. Leah also co-founded Discover Arlington where she manages the community outreach, blogging and social media accounts.

As VP of Membership, Leah oversees all membership-related initiatives for the DC chapter including smaller-event execution, recruitment strategy, participation and attendance, and relationship building. She is excited to spread the word about UWIB and actively recruit new young professionals to the organization!

In her free time, Leah loves to spend time cooking new recipes, dancing, traveling, or watching HGTV with a glass of cabernet.

Mehron Price, Vice President of Philanthropy, D.C.

Mehron Price is a writer and entrepreneur. In 2016, she founded Grants on a Mission, LLC. Mehron specializes in grant proposal writing for mid-size nonprofits and coaching nonprofit executives on developing sustainable fundraising strategies. Prior to launching her own business, Mehron was the Associate Development Manager for the Taproot Foundation DC, a nonprofit that connects professionals to skills-based volunteering opportunities. Mehron graduated cum laude from Harvard University in 2013. She is a DC native and enjoys yoga, cooking, and reading nonfiction in her free time.

Sarah Gilcrest, Vice President of Digital Media, D.C.

Sarah Gilcrest graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara in 2013 with a degree in Political Science. While in school she also spent a year abroad studying at the Institute of Political Science (and wine, unofficially) in Bordeaux. Soon after graduating she started working for the British American Security Information Council, a nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament think tank, as a Communications Associate where she helped manage their social media presence and develop international outreach campaigns. From there she spent time working at an international trade consulting company doing marketing work and then moved to a research role at the Institute for Market Transformation, a nonprofit focused on promoting green building. Now she works as a Research Associate at Costar, a commercial real estate data company.

Outside of the office she enjoys traveling, swimming, and eating pizza.

As NYC President, Luyba leads the New York City organization’s long-term development and goals, providing oversight and guidance to the board.

Luyba is currently an Internal Strategy Consultant at IBM where she is able to use data-driven recommendations to create operational and strategic change for organizations. She has had a unique experience in working across cross-functional departments including marketing, sales, and product. Additionally, within her practice area, she leads curriculum development to help 60+ consultants gain practical analytical skills to use on future engagements.

Luyba graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and an additional Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. At CMU she focused on Behavioral Economics and research. Outside of classes, she was involved in the Activities Board, planning concerts and other events to enrich the student body experience.

Luyba is passionate about providing accessible professional and personal development programming, to inspire women to #runtheworld! She is excited to connect with the broader UWIB NYC community and always up to meet for matcha.

Allison Dewan, Vice President, NYC

Allison Dewan is proud to give back to the community through her participation in UWIB as the VP of Chapter Operations. She is proud to support and spread UWIB’s mission throughout NYC and to work with a dedicated and caring group of women.

Allison works as the VP of Corporate Development at GEE Group Inc., a publicly-traded staffing company. In her role as VP of Corporate Development, Allison drives the brand strategy of GEE Group. She manages the investor relations and overall marketing of the parent company while overseeing the marketing of subsidiary brands. Previously, Allison worked in management consulting at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and in operations and marketing at two startups, Enterspark Group and Scribe Solutions.

Allison graduated from The George Washington University (GWU) with a B.A. in International Affairs (Europe and Eurasia Focus) from the Elliott School of International Affairs, and with a B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature from the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. Also, she holds a Master’s of Liberal Studies in Global Studies and Organizational Development from Southern Methodist University (SMU).

During her time at GWU, Allison studied abroad at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid for a semester and held internships at The New York Stock Exchange and U.S. House of Representatives, among others. Allison was involved with community service through both her sorority, Delta Gamma, and through university programs at GWU. She is passionate about helping others, especially those who lack educational and cultural resources.

Christy Johnson, Co-Vice President of Programming, NYC

As Co-VP of Programming, Christy coordinates personal and professional development events for the UWIB NYC Chapter with her Co-VP, Megan Tiernan. Together, Christy and Megan will collaborate with subject matter experts across a variety of industries to bring top-notch programming events to the women of NYC.

Christy currently works in Learning & Organizational Development at PVH (parent company of Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Speedo & Heritage Brands), supporting the developmental needs of the global organization. She graduated with a B.S.Ed. from the University of Memphis and received her M.Ed. from Christian Brothers University. As a huge advocate for continuing education, Christy is always looking for opportunities to expand her knowledge and is currently working on an Organizational Analysis certificate through Stanford.

In her free time, Christy enjoys cooking, traveling, trying new restaurants in NYC, and cuddling with her pup. She is dedicated to learning and inspiring others to be the best version of themselves.

 Megan Tiernan, Co-Vice President of Programming, NYC

As Co-VP of Programming, Megan coordinates personal and professional development events for the UWIB NYC Chapter with her Co-VP, Christy Johnson. Transitioning to the Board from a Philanthropy Committee position, she is excited to continue her mission of building an empowered female community in NYC!

Megan currently works in Education Technology focusing on strategic writing, proposal management, and business development. She has worked in a variety of other industries, including government contracting, clean energy, health and wellness, and radio to name a few. Megan studied Business Communication at Stevenson University and was a member of Sigma Alpha Pi, The National Society of Leadership and Success.

Megan is looking forward to bringing her drive and enthusiasm to help like-minded women bolster their confidence through personal and professional development, via Programming initiatives.

Megan enjoys boating, glamping, freelancing, live music, and all things Irish. She is also a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan and changes her hair color more often than her nail polish.

Serena Wong, Vice President of Community Relations, NYCSerena Wong

As Vice President of Community Relations for UWIB’s NYC Chapter, Serena works to develop strategic partnerships and to secure sponsorships from corporate partners, local universities, event venues, vendors.

She works in product management at American Express, responsible for driving innovative and disruptive payment solutions across B2B industries and international markets. Previously, Serena was a consultant at PricewaterhouseCooper’s Advisory practice where her experience included regulatory compliance and investigative due diligence. Serena attended the George Washington University and had studied abroad in Beijing and London.

Personally, Serena volunteers weekly as a Team Leader at Minds Matter – a mentoring program that helps top performing NYC high school students apply for college. As a former member of GW Women in Business, she is excited to join UWIB in furthering the professional and personal development of women across industries in New York City.

Manisha Marberry, Vice President of Membership, NYC

Manisha is responsible for overseeing all member related initiatives including relationship building and recruitment strategies for UWIB’s NYC chapter. She is also responsible for planning membership events, such as networking and social functions throughout the year, as well as managing the UWIB NYC Membership Committee.

Manisha currently works at Sprinklr, a social software company, on their Client Success team. Manisha is responsible for developing a trusted relationship with key client partners and stakeholders to ensure they derive the most value possible from the software. As a result of her strategic expertise and deep knowledge of social media, the Social Media Influencers Awards recognized one of Manisha’s clients as having one of the best overall social campaigns in both 2010 and 2011!

Manisha is a graduate of the University of Oregon with degrees in both Psychology and Business. During her time there, Manisha was a member of the Student Government, Greek Judicial Council, Executive Marketing Council and several other organizations on campus. Manisha is also a proud member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

During her free time, Manisha enjoys traveling abroad, volunteering with local charitable organizations, and exploring all that New York has to offer. This is Manisha’s second year on the board, and she looks forward to furthering the professional and personal development of UWIB members both new and old!

As VP of Digital Media for UWIB, Alexandria leads the online presence for the New York chapter, including all digital channels and overarching digital strategy.

Alexandria is a strategic communications professional, passionate about developing healthcare by investing in emerging technology. Currently, she oversees digital communication programs for pharmaceutical companies and the development of a patient-reported-outcomes program that aims to improve chronic diseases. Her accomplishments and continual studies are in brand development and business to business expansion in the healthcare space. Previously, she has worked on brands such as Pepsi, and Starbucks, and programs with the Ghana government focusing on the growth of children education.

Alexandria is a Michigan native; she arrived in New York after a receiving a B.A. in communications with a concentration in public relations from Florida Gulf Coast University.

She describes herself as a life-long learner and enthusiast for exploring. She strives to continually grow, empower others and create meaningful work through relationships.

Lina joined UWIB NYC in 2015 and is returning as the VP of Philanthropy. As a former Girl Scout of 12 years, Lina developed a passion for women’s empowerment, youth and education initiatives. She leads the Philanthropy Committee in fostering diverse volunteering opportunities for members and building strong relationships with nonprofit and charitable organizations, including Girls Inc., Bottomless Closet, and the Bowery Mission.At Essence Digital, Lina manages the client services team and drives business improvements for the global digital media agency, serving clients like Google and Target. She has 5 years of experience in project management, management consulting and business operations.Outside of work, Lina enjoys Broadway shows and workouts at overpriced cycling and dance studios. Lina studied at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA, where she earned her BBA in Finance and Economics.
