Philanthropy Event Recap: UWIB NYC at Bowery Mission

imageThere’s no better time to get involved with United Women in Business and philanthropy than right now! What are you waiting for? With our philanthropy efforts officially launching this past summer, we’re in full swing for the Fall and Holidays and we need your help.

This past Saturday evening on Sept. 13th a group of UWIB NYC members volunteered by serving dinner to over 200 hungry New Yorkers at the Bowery Mission. We started out the evening by donning super stylish hairnets, bright red aprons and we soon got to work! After completing a bit of food preparation work, we learned some expert chef techniques (did you know putting onions in water helps to prevent tears?!) from the Bowery Mission’s Chef Ping.

Most of the food we served was donated from some of NYC’s most in-demand restaurants with a menu boasting everything from swordfish to fresh roasted veggies and even a little quinoa. Ultimately we provided a much needed service, had a great time in the process and even made some great new friends along the way. We hope to return to help out at the Bowery Mission very soon!

Our next UWIB philanthropy event is fast approaching on Saturday, October 4th and we’re expected to bring a big group to help! What will be doing? We’ll spend the day as Career Coaches working with students in the New York Needs You mentoring program. Volunteers will avail themselves to students in need of positive, supportive role models, professional development training and educational enrichment. Join like-minded UWIB NYC volunteers for breakfast and lunch provided by New York Needs You at the¬†Skadden¬†offices in Times Square and enjoy a day of incredible service, fulfillment and networking. The afternoon promises to be a very special one, we hope you can join us and bring some friends!
