On Sunday, July 28th, UWIB NYC members met at St. Francis Xavier Mission‘s shelter in Chelsea for an afternoon of service and community building. Currently there are more than 50,000 people living in NYC shelters right now, more than even Yankee Stadium can accommodate.
Facilities like Xavier’s are critical to providing shelter and services to New Yorkers without homes. During our project, UWIB members worked in pairs to make beds, organize the shelter facility and all in all ensure the premises were left in welcoming, orderly shape for any returning guests or new visitors.
UWIB volunteers connected with fellow volunteers within a shared commitment to philanthropy while helping provide a critical service to NYC’s less fortunate community.
This incredibly gratifying experience is the first of many UWIB NYC will offer it’s members each month going forward. Hope to see you at our next event!
